small town, international flavor...

Puerto Morelos is a small fishing village with an artsy style. As in, there are several artist living here and expatriots from all over.

People that have moved here live in harmony with the local people.

Since it is a beach town, many people come to see the last preserved natural reef in the area. Local and expats have worked to keep the mangroves from being destroyed by hotel buidings, so they can continue to do their job of feeding the reef.

There are so many great restaurants in Puerto Morelos you can stay two weeks and go to a different amazing restaurant every night.

For example:

  • Loazis is very romantic spot too. You can look out over the park and see the children playing. We recommend the Shrimp Sambucca or the Grouper. Salads to die for.
  • Hola Asia Ok. Weird, having two Asian restaurants in Mexico? No, it's  awesome.I would say, you can not go wrong with anything you order here. My favorite is the Satay with peanut butter sauce and tofu. No, I am not a vegetarian, this is enough to make a meat and potato person slap their grandmother! That's just one of the delicious things on the menu. Also, theres a bar overlooking the zokola or park and the sea. What more can you ask for?
  • David Lows. Another great Asian restaurant but also with some pasta a pizza that is very good.I am going to say that the patay is the best I have ever had.Everything is good here. The service here is great too with our friend Valerie who drove from Canada with a wolf in the car with her!!
  •  Los Gauchos.. is what we call the Argentina restaurant. With empenlladas for under $2 that are out of this world. The ambiance is nice as you are on the street across from the church. Very nice. Very nice people too. Pablo and Luciana and their little boy Fidel are just the cutest family. They are the owners.
  • Caktuz.. This is a brand new place that just opened . Not only is it a restaurant and bar but also, an art gallery. Some rare talent is displayed here with a shabby scheik style of decorating. This was 3 garages transformed into a state of the art landmark in town. The food is good and the atmosphere is amazing. It is worth going just to see the place. In the back there is an outdoor, natural sand floor, eclectic jungle. You can sit under a tree and eat dinner while watching the  brick open fire grill. It is truly delightful!! heres a pic of opening night.check out utube:\

  • John Grays..very upscale, special occasion place for us. However, this does not mean you need to dress up. The food is wonderful as well as the presentation. The food Is the art here. Picture perfect and delicious. John is like a celebrity here. There are pictures of Raquel Welch, Dustin Hoffman and others eating here. Last week Kim Cattrell from Sex in the City was eating there. The catch of the day is wonderful but so is everything you can order. If it's not delicious, it's not on the menu.Jerry Van Dyke with Tyler and some good friends at John Greys

His mother-in-law also has a breakfast/lunch place right on the beach. Here , I would say, is the best view in town of the sea and the people. Go straight into town , take the last left, 4th building on the right.

  • Cantina Habaneros.. This is The party place for locals and gringos as well. Ed, the owner has ideas to surprise us all . To use the expression, NEVER A DULL MOMENT, is very fitting here. From new musisians to costume parties to artificial smoke to the band made up of the cook and all the other employees aka staff infection, and they were good! this guy has an imagination! Did I mention great pizza and onion rings we can not live without? You can not help but see this place on Ninos Heros because of the blue or green lights illuminating the bar. You can see from the road who is there and it is usully everybody.(I heard Kar-eoke has been added) that should be fun too.

  • Amancias...is the corner coffee shop with bagles and fruit.Offers internet service. A  great meeting place in the mornings. Good place to talk to friends and read the paper. An icon place for sure. Fresh squeazed juice, fruit, cookies. Everybody goes there. Everybody knows your name.

check our site often, it is just being built....
